This case illustrates by images how a large colon polyp looks like inside a colon, excision site of the polyp and the polyp after retrieval on towel.
Since it was a large polyp the following steps were taken:
- The base of the polyp was infiltrated with mixture of Epinephrine and saline. It serves two purposes – helps to create a cushion effect between the layers of the colon and polyps so that the cutting current does not go beyond polyp base limiting burn and bleeding. The epinephrine which is a vaso-constrictor helps to prevent bleeding
- The polyp is held at based with a snare and the current is passed excising it completely.
Pathology of the polyp confirmed – Tubulovillous adenoma definitely Pre-cancerous lesion, but now removed.
