What is a Prebiotic, and do I need it ?
Prebiotic are the form of oligosaccharides, meaning a small sugar molecule compare to starch which is a polysaccharide – large sugar molecule. Prebiotic are functional food and good for bacteria to nourish their growth. Chicory root is considered the richest natural source of prebiotic. Other sources of probiotics are fruits, vegetables, milk, yogurts, honey and tubers.
I’m assuming since most of us either consume fruits, vegetables or tubers there is no special need to buy prebiotic.
As a gastroenterologist I recommend my patients Simply Biotic for GI issues (cramps, gas, bloating, diarrhea, IBS) along with diet rich in Prebiotic or the Low FODMAP diet.
