Who qualifies for the weight loss program
- If you have BMI > 30, or BMI > 27 with hypertension, diabetes orobstructive sleep apnea, and do not have any contraindications

What medical treatment options are available to me?
- We only prescribe FDA approved treatment – phentermine- topamax as combination therapy and Wegovy
- Wegovy was approved for weight loss by FDA in June, 2021
What are the contraindications to get the Phentermine and Topamax
- You fail to qualify for Phentermine and Topamax if you have uncontrolled hypertension, previous stroke or coronary artery disease or cardiac arrhythmias or plan to get pregnant
What are the contraindications to get the Wegovy or warning

What are non FDA approved treatments
- Other treatments being prescribed by medical providers include drugs like ozempic, Mounjaro. We do not prescribe non FDA approved treatments to our patients
How do the drugs work on my body
- The combination of phentermine and topamax leads to decrease appetite and early satiety. It would make you consume less calories which eventually leads to weight loss
- Wegovy works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. The medication dose must be increased gradually over 16 to 20 weeks to 2.4 mg once weekly to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Are the medications prescribed to me safe
- We have multiple studies and years of data showing the safety profile of phentermine- topamax and Wegovy
- Some patients can experience side effects which can lead to stopping of the medications
- Common side effects include insomnia, irritable mood, high blood pressure by Phentermine-Topamax
- Wegovy can lead to common side effects in the GI tract like nausea, vomiting, gastroenteritis and GERD
Can I order or get the treatment if I don’t live close to your practice
- We can prescribe treatment to the person living anywhere in the State of Texas after a tele-visit
- We do not prescribe weight loss treatment across state lines at this point of time
What is the cost of the treatment

Wegovy is expensive and costs close to$1400 for 4 shots which lasts a month. You need to take one shot every week

How much weight do I expect to lose
- Patients in the randomized controlled trials lost between 9% – 12%
- My patients along with the dietary advice lose close to 15% – 20%. For someone who weighs close to 200 lbs, I expect them to lose 30 lbs
Is the treatment FDA approved
- Yes, the combination of phentermine and topamax is FDA approved
Are all medical or drug treatments FDA approved
- No, drugs like ozempic and wegovy are approved for diabetes control only. However they do lead to weight loss, hence it is now commonly prescribed to non diabetic patients for weight loss
